OCV HIKE TO SALT SPRING ISLAND

Well, we thought we had lots of time.
A and I were meeting 2 other members at the trail head on Salt Spring Island .... but we all had to be on the 9am ferry. In spite of arriving over 30 minutes early it did not look as if we would get on. A truck ahead of us in the line was left behind but there was enough room to squeeze in A's wee Honda Fit. Whew.

It was sunny at Swartz Bay!

This working farm is the trailhead for Ruckle Park.

The sheep were freshly shorn, brrr.
It was quite cold at this point.

We did get lost a few times but it was all good. I never mind a longer duration hike!
The scenery, as you can see, was fabulous ... and it had warmed up ... happy hikers!
A large portion of the hiking was through forest, all lovely and lush after the rain we are finally getting.

Back towards the working farm. Close to the parking lot is a farm stand selling homemade cookies, jams and produce. I felt a cookie was in order after a 4 hour hike.

Luckily we arrived at the ferry terminal in good time for the 4pm return to Swartz Bay.
By taking a ferry to go hiking the adventure just seems more momentous, especially after not taking ferries for 18 months. We had a glorious day, as always, with good company. I got to meet another 2 members of the club.

  1. Deb, I'm just now catching up on your three recent posts - wow, you have been busy! This sounds like another good hiking excursion. Great to get off the Rock after all these months.
