Wishing a belated Father's Day to the many wonderful fathers in my life.
Especially to Justin, Adam and Chip's loving father and my life partner. As well to my brothers who both learned how to be exceptional fathers from our dear Dad.
❤
Unbelievably it was pouring rain again this morning! Also unbelievably, as soon as we stepped outside dressed in raingear, the rain stopped. We then experienced only a few sprinkles throughout the day.
Brother Tom had raved about the town of Ludlow, so Spring and I hopped on a morning train to go check it out. A very pretty and enjoyable 30 minute journey later we began our exploration. On our way to the castle were many many charity shops to be checked out. Spring is in heaven, we have never seen so many 2nd hand stores. We have a major problem however which is the fact that our suitcases are full. Mostly full of summer clothes and sandals which we should have left at home.
I found my namesake bakery.
More Tudor architecture.
Ludlow is a very charming town with many intriguing shops and churches. Thank you Tom.
The highlight of the town is LUDLOW CASTLE.
It was built between 1086 and 1094 by Roger de Lacy and added to over the centuries. Eventually it was taken over by The Crown and abandoned around 1700. It is currently owned by the Earl of Powis.
The staircase leading up to The Great Hall.
In the 1500s the "little princes of the tower" (Princes Edward and Richard) lived in the left hand bit.
Some detail within the castle
It was interesting to climb various towers and to explore the many rooms.
A view from on high of the River Teme far below.
Looking out over modern day Ludlow.
The unusual round building below is all that remains of The Chapel of Saint Mary Magdalene.
These 2 friends, or perhaps they are sisters, had 4 happy dogs between them. One of the women was attempting to get a good photo of the entire gang.
Back in Shrewsbury we needed reviving.
Tea and a brownie to share will do the trick.
Another great day.
Loving England!!!
And it is a joy to travel with my longtime friend Spring!
