Here is Charles Darwin in front of his school. It was noted that he was not a particularly bright student. Of course that was based on his lack of enthusiasm with learning Latin, of course he preferred to be outdoors.
Did you know that he seriously considered entering the clergy? Rather ironic that later in life his discoveries led to conflict with the church.
His old school is now the city library.
We spent a couple of hours there, both Spring and I researching family trees. Spring's ancestors hail from this region.
Mom, I am looking forward to sharing some information with you.
This is one side of the upstairs where Darwin's classrooms were.
The other side
Can you read the etched in graffiti?
Lower LHS is dated 1782 and another is from 1868!
Across the street from the library is Shrewsbury Castle, also built just after 1066 with many later additions and changes.
It is now the home of a military museum. The employee there was most helpful looking up information of Spring's great great grandfather's military service.
The Gateway House
Shrewsbury Abbey
It seems that the river has risen. We walked along the path below 2 evenings ago.
The Old Market Hall
You would never guess what it houses today!?
A movie theatre and a cafe are located on the upper floor.
We went to see a movie called A Head Full of Honey. Typical Hollywood fare but Nick Nolte's real life granddaughter did a good job.
We arrived back to the hotel to find that my bed is still not fixed. I am not sure if I mentioned that it is missing a wheel making the bottom sag at one corner. That combined with the sloping floor makes it a challenge to stay in bed. Oh well, we were given free breakfast as compensation. At least it isn't an upper bunk.
Guess where we are headed tomorrow.
I'll give you a hint.
She Loves You Ya Ya Ya.
We are hoping that Sir Paul will be home.
