A Bridge 1994 Years Old ...Victoria take note

Geert and Karin from Belguim not looking impressed with our included breakfast.
The start of our 17 km journey today was about 3 kms on the side of a highway. We were thankful when we got back onto farm roads.
Sometimes we do not see the best part of town as we enter .... we are almost in Merida.
This is more like it. This Roman bridge, built in the 1st century is an amazing sight. The Via de la Plata crosses over the bridge, the albergue is just 600 m along the river.
Church bells were ringing in 11am as we crossed into the beautiful and lively city of Merida.
Oh and if you look closely you will see the goslings alongside their parents.
Karin (is camera shy so that's why no photos of her) is walking the Via de la Plata for the 3rd time. She is really helping me ease into the camino life. She knew that the albergue here is not so nice so we booked a room in a (Alameda) hostal. For 15€ each we have a nice room with a bathroom. It actually has a bathtub which I was planning on using but ... no plug .... Doh!
This city is full of Roman ruins. This is a portion of the acqueduct. We walked all day fitting in many many ancient sites. What a beautiful city to visit!
The Roman Theatre, amazing engineering and so beautiful. As you can see the weather has greatly improved, temps in the low 20s so perfect!

The site is huge, this is just a small portion of my photos.

This woman is quite a character, she whistled to the sparrows and several came down to feed from her hand. She came over to see the photos and we attempted to ask for her email address which she didn't have then all the cafe staff get involved, yada yada yada excitement, confusion. I finally got her address to send her a hard copy.
The lovely tree lined walk along the river.
For dinner we had 1 tapas each, plenty after the gigantic lunch we had eaten. The street was full of locals, many families with children and grandparents. So much better than isolating at home in front of the tv. This fellow is shaving very thin slices of the jamon to make appetizers. Excellent advertising with all the pedestrians passing by.
My favourite day so far. Actually, every day is great, I do not want this experience to end.
Mom, I hope you are enjoying your breakfast as you read this. Love you!
