But the view from the top was worth it.
Then a very nice walk through a pine woods. (Lonny from Nederland)
Most of the day was walking through lovely terrain with the ever present lavender, thistles, broom and many other wild flowers. It was the kind of walk that I love to slow down and savour, to make it last longer. I felt that this is my purpose for coming to Spain. Walking in this beauty is like a drug, it truly gives one a sense of extreme well being.
Chica feliz
We had 3 incidents today. First off, due to over confidence, I fell while crossing a stream, no damage, not even wet feet. Just a bit of Canadian comedy to amuse my walking amiga.
Later we happened upon a man that gave us both a creepy feeling. Neither of us had seen him before. He passed me and then walked between us. Usually a man walks much faster than us but he did not. We sped up and after about 15 minutes we happened upon a woman pilgrim on her own. She spoke french so we were asking her if she knew this fellow that was making us nervous. "Oh c'est ma mari" ( her husband!) she says. My 1st thought was that was good news BUT then we both felt embarrassed. We made a quick escape then apologized to him when we saw him later at the bar in Galisteo. He was very kind about our mistake. Now he is sleeping in the next bed to us. He seems very nice and harmless now that we have spoken to him. We were both spooked about the robbery a couple of nights ago.
Near our destination Lonny took a hard fall, tripping over a piece of rope. She bounced right back up with a few scrapes. Our heavy packs make falling a whole new experience. The weight creates more momentum making it difficult to save oneself.
About 1 km along this highway. Many wildflowers amongst all the garbage.
Wrong order, this was our pleasant rest stop to eat lunch. ( S/B before the road walking.) It was getting warmer (remember I am not complaining!) so shade was welcome. Can you see all the cow patties?
These 4 photos above are in reverse order. We were walking through the (friendly) cow field.
We are staying at Albergue Turistico de Galisteo and arrived around 3pm after walking 27 kms since 7:45 am. My estimate of total kms walked so far is 355.... only 645 left to go.
The albergue only has 8 beds and was full with reservations. We were either lucky or smart but we had made a reservation. Pilgrims were constantly streaming in looking for a bed. The hospitalero was very kind, calling other pensions and hotels within a 20km distance, booking rooms and arranging free transportation as well. Oh and then again free transport back to Galisteo in the morning so that they can continue their caminos.
Lonny and I then rushed down to the bar to order a big lunch before lunch time was over. We made it whew. We then explored the walled city but my phone was charging so no photos of this interesting town. I will explore more tomorrow as I am here for 2 nights so stay tuned.
Lonny relaxing outside the albergue.
From Lonny's camera from today.
Waiting for our room to be ready when we arrived so early in Canaveral yesterday.
On our way to Canaveral yesterday. I was reading the information about the Roman roads.
Oooh, I can picture that, "The weight creates more momentum making it difficult to save oneself." Very glad you were unharmed (except maybe pride).
ReplyDeleteDo you have an estimated number of days that you think your camino will take?
Hi Laura, no I have no idea but I do have a ferry booking at the end of May.
