If You Have Never Been to Salamanca ...

Saying goodbye to Robert and Anne from Auz with whom we shared our Youth Hostel room. They are heading to the next stop. Their packs are very heavy!

Off in search of French Pastry Shop for a sinful breakfast.
                       Delicious of course
Everywhere one looks in the old town of Salamanca there are churches and of course the Cathedral.

Note the shells on the building facade. The shell or conchas are a symbol of the Camino. This is called Casa de Conchas.

We took an audio tour of the beautiful Cathedral.

Do you see the symbol of Death? (above)

With much foresight the old cathedral, which was built in the 1200s, was kept intact when the new cathedral was built in the 1700s.

Moving out of the youth hostel. Tonight we are staying at Hotel Plaza Los Angeles which is right on the Plaza Mayor.

This is the view from our room. We are not looking over the plaza, our room is on the other side of the building.

Our nice room with 3 beds. I had originally not planned to stay in Salamanca for 2 nights which would mean leaving my amogas behind. When Lonny was attempting to book for her and Danielle, all she could get was a 3 bed room. So I decided to stay and am so glad that I did.
Salamanca is famous for its university. This weekend many students are celebrating their graduation so the place is really hopping.

We were all 3 desperate to do laundry, Danielle and I took our clothes to the laundromat, while they were in the washer we checked out the market.
                          Sorry Laura!

Statue below our 4th floor (no elevator of course .. Good training for mountains to come) room.

One side of the busy Plaza Mayor

Lunch Time! We seem to be getting used to the Spanish eating time table. Very little breakfast, lunch after 2 pm and dinner after 8pm.

This was a Salamanca version of a Russian Salad. This one was a potato salad base with tuna, peas, carrots and cheese. Delicious!
We took a ride on a tourist train. The English translation on the headsets was not great but we had fun nevertheless.
The highlight of the day was climbing the Cathedral Tower, the views were outstanding.

This is looking south, from where we walked 2 days ago.
We ran into the 2 young German women, Marion and Barbara.

Time for ice cream (sorbet for me) and then Danielle and I did some grocery shopping for the next couple of days. Then siesta before dinner.

I love this city!!! and that is not a sentence that I often utter. Salamanca is architecturally amazing, there are parks, many restaurants serving good food with great service, lively and friendly people and interesting history. I recommend adding Salamanca to your bucket list. The couple Les and Ilona that I walked with way back on day 3 or so come here every year, now I see why.
